Frustration for Ashton United as match at Mickleover FC is abandoned with them 3-0 ahead

December 26, 2024 by Tony Bugby

MICKLEOVER FC 0, ASHTON UNITED 3

(abandoned after 58 minutes)

Ashton United were well on their way to extending their impressive away record in Pitching In Northern Premier League, Premier when the weather intervened at Mickleover FC in Derbyshire.

With significant fog in the Peak District, the conditions were deemed to be playable and two minutes in Darius Osei dragged his shot wide with no one up in support.

After nine minutes, winger Trevon Bryan cut inside and brought a good low save out of Yusif Mersin with James Hardy possibly obscuring the keeper’s view.

A great ball over the top then saw Osei show his strength to hold off defenders before hitting the outside of the post.

Andy Dales then stepped inside Bryan before sending a wild attempt out of the ground.

Sam Baird picked up a booking for pulling back Tyreace Palmer midway through the half and two minutes later a goal kick saw Osei’s flick on put Bryan clear with his low effort gathered in by Mersin.

The breakthrough for the Robins came on the half hour, a loose ball was picked up by Hardy who steadied before steering a low effort into the net and five minutes later Nathan Lowe fired Osei’s lay off confidently into the same side of the goal after Louis White was adjudged to have won the ball fairly.

Five minutes before the break Lowe was penalised for sliding in on Jamie Soule with Ryan Wilson sending an effort wide and the half closed with Osei heading Josh Docherty’s free kick over the top close in.

With the visibility deteriorating, the second period was allowed to start and there was just time for Osei to convert Alex Byrne’s right wing cross before the referee called a pause followed by the inevitable abandonment.

Attendance: 503.
