Star-spangled City

April 8, 2013 by Tony Bugby

Manchester City Football Club are delighted to announce the second part of their post-season tour to the United States.

City will cross the Atlantic at the end of May to take on Chelsea at the world renowned Yankee Stadium in New York City. This comes two days after the teams face each other at the Busch Stadium, St Louis, in the first ever professional soccer game to take place there.

It will be the Club’s third trip to North America in four years, after the first visit in 2010 to Portland, Atlanta and New York.

City have been continuously engaging with US supporters over the past few years, building new Manchester City soccer fields in some of the most deprived communities of New York, Miami, Los Angeles and Chicago, with another soon to open in Washington.

The 2011-12 Premier League champions will take on the 2011-12 Champions of Europe on Thursday, May 25th at 5.30pm CST.

These contests will mark the third and fourth soccer matches at the current Yankee Stadium. The first took place on July 22, 2012, with Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain playing to a 1-1 draw in front of 38,202 fans. On August 8, 2012, Real Madrid defeated A.C. Milan, 5-1.

Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City Football Club said: “Since City’s visit to the United States in 2010, our relationship with North American fans has continued to grow. We are enthusiastic believers in the development of soccer in the US and have seen first-hand the passion that North American supporters have for the beautiful game. We are delighted to bring City to their doorstep.”

“Yankee Stadium is a fantastic venue, rich in tradition and history.  We are honoured to have been invited to play there.”

Tickets to the game in St Louis sold out in a record time of just twenty minutes.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning on Wednesday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at www.yankees.com/soccer. For updates and further details, including suite opportunities, please visit www.yankees.com/soccer or follow @yankeesevents on Twitter.

Yankees full- and partial-season ticket licensees, Yankees Universe members, Yankees Group Leaders and Yankees.com subscribers will have the opportunity to take part in a special ticket pre-on-sale on Tuesday, April 9.
