United sign Uruguay U20 full back Varela

June 7, 2013 by Paul Chan

Manchester United have tonight confirmed the signing of Uruguayan full back Guillermo Varela from Club Atlético Peñarol for an undisclosed fee.

The U20 international becomes their 11th South American signing following a successful trial at the end of last season.

He becomes new United manager David Moyes’ first signing after he approved the deal and is expected to provide cover at right back but will first head off to Turkey for the FIFA U20 World Championships.
