David Moyes has confirmed tonight that Wayne Rooney is injured and could miss some of Manchester United’s festive fixtures. With Robin Van Persie already missing Moyes may have to make plans for the short term without two of the best strikers in the Barclays Premier League.
Danny Welbeck continued up front for United in the Capital One Cup tie at Stoke City as Moyes made a bid for the first available silverware of the season but their efforts on the night were hit by unexpectedly wild weather conditions.
With rain, wind and hail lashing the Britannia Stadium, play was suspended by the referee for around ten minutes during the first half until the conditions became a little less wild.
