Boundary Park gets a new name

July 3, 2014 by Tony Bugby

Boundary Park is to be renamed after Oldham Athletic sealed a five-year partnership with retail giants Sports Direct and kit suppliers Sondico.

The sponsorship, the biggest commercial deal in the club’s history, sees Boundary Park become SportsDirect.com Park while SportsDirect.com are the club’s new front-of-shirt sponsor.

And the first game at SportsDirect.com Park will be a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United whose owner is Sports Direct supremo Mike Ashley.

Latics’ Chairman Simon Corney said: “This is a landmark day for the football club. We are delighted to enter into a partnership of this magnitude with Sports Direct.

“A lot of work has gone into this deal which sees Sports Direct become our front-of-shirt partner and Sondico become our technical kit partner for the next five seasons, as well as the renaming of Boundary Park to SportsDirect.com Park.

“There is a lot going on at the club, with the construction of the new stand and the opportunities this affords us.

“The fact we have attracted Sports Direct as our major commercial partner shows that we are moving the club forward. This deal is a first for Oldham Athletic and shows that the long-term future and stability of the club is at the forefront of our minds as we move forward. “

David Newbury, SportsDirect.com Head of Brand Marketing, added: “We’re very pleased to be aligning our brand with a club as rich in history as Oldham.

“There’s a real sense of optimism around the club and we hope this sponsorship is one that will benefit everyone associated to the club and play a part in the club achieving its goals.”
