Spaniard is saviour for Oldham Athletic as Llera scores late leveller

July 19, 2014 by Tony Bugby

A late equaliser from trialist Miguel Llera earned Oldham Athletic a 1-1 draw against Melbourne City at Sportsdirect.com Park.

The Spanish defender struck with five minutes left as Latics took on Australian opponents who had former Newcastle, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham winger Damian Duff in their line up.

It was Latics’ third pre-season workout and far from a gripping spectacle and as miserable as the day as heavy midday rain had many wondering whether the game might be postponed.

The pitifully low crowd of 1,039 witnessed a poor game in which substitute David Williams fired City ahead early in the second half.

Llera conjured the equaliser in the 85th minute with a shot from six yards which looped over the City keeper.

Latics are at Morecambe on Tuesday and away to Barrow next Saturday as their build up to the 2014/15 campaign continues.
