Jonathan Forte keeps scoring as Oldham Athletic keep unbeaten run going at Chesterfield

October 18, 2014 by Tony Bugby

CHESTERFIELD 1, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 1.

Top scorer Jonathan Forte returned with a goal as Oldham Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to 11 matches following a 1-1 draw at Chesterfield in Sky Bet League One.
Forte, who has been nursing various injuries, scored his eighth of the season from the penalty spot as Latics maintained their impressive run of results as their last loss was back in late August.
It gave Latics the lead only for Sam Clucas to equalised as the newly-promoted Spireites snatched a point.
Forte for Conor Wilkinson, who has returned to Bolton Wanderers following a loan spell, was the one enforced change from the side that beat Walsall last Saturday.

Chesterfield’s Tommy Lee was the busier of the two keepers as he saved well from Carl Winchester and Dominic Poleon before Paul Rachubka was called into action for the first time saving well from Jimmy Ryan on the half hour.

Forte and Poleon had further chances as the opening half finished goalless.

The breakthrough game less than three minutes after the restart when Danny Philliskirk was fouled in the box by George Margrietter and Forte confidently despatched the spot kick.

Chesterfield equalised eight minutes later when Gary Roberts’ ball over the home defence was volleyed in by Sam Clucas from eight yards.

New loan signing Jabo Ibehre replaced Poleon midway through the second half as Latics looked for a winning goal.

However, it was Chesterfield who came closest to finding the net again with two minutes left when Sammy Morsy’s shot was turned round the post for a corner by Rachubka.

There was also a scramble in the Chesterfield box deep into stoppage time, but Forte was unable to scramble the ball home.
