Not such a posh performance as Oldham Athletic draw last game against Peterborough United

May 2, 2015 by Tony Bugby

OLDHAM ATHLETIC 1, PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1

Oldham Athletic were held at home by Peterborough United in a fixture which had an end-of-season feel as both sides completed the season with nothing to play for.

Promotion had slipped from Posh’s grasp while Latics had fought off the threat of relegation.

Dominic Poleon gave Latics an early lead and it looked as though they would finish the season on a winning note as they were ahead for over one hour.

But there was a sting in the tail as Michael Bostwick came up with a late leveller for Posh.

Latics took a ninth-minute lead when Poleon headed home a Brian Wilson cross for his seventh goal of the season.

Rhys Turner and Poleon had chances to increase the lead, but each time keeper Ben Alnwick saved well.

Conor Washington could have levelled for Posh in added on time in the first half but keeper Joel Coleman saved well.
The visitors came back into the game in the second half as Newell’s 30-yard strike was well kept out by Coleman.
The game lacked energy, but Jordan Bove’s introduction seemed to spark Latics into life.
Latics were on top and central defender James Wilson was the next to go close but his volley was saved well by Alnwick.
Posh were reduced to 10 men midway through the second period as Edwards lunged in late on Wilson and he received his marching orders from referee Gary Sutton.
Caretaker manager Dean Holden brought on Jack Tuohy for his first professional Football League appearance after 68 minutes when he replaced Carl Winchester.
The 10 men of Peterborough seemed to be lifted by their one man disadvantage and almost equalised 15 minutes from time through Conor Washington..
From that resulting corner, Posh drew level through Bostwick. Latics failed to deal with the set piece into the box and the midfielder fired home.
