Bolton Wanderers trot to victory at Oldham Athletic in pre-season friendly

July 21, 2015 by Tony Bugby

OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0, BOLTON WANDERERS 2

Championship quality showed as Oldham Athletic were beaten at home by Bolton Wanderers in their latest pre-season friendly.

First-half goals from Liam Feeney and Brian Wilson, who found his own net, proved decisive as Oldham came out second best as Bolton lived up to their nickname trotting to victory.

Feeney and Gary Madine had chances before Bolton took the lead midway through the opening half when Feeney beat the offside trap to finish well from 10 yards.

Darren Pratley and Madine had chances to extend Bolton’s lead as Latics struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Gavin Gunning was proving to be key at the back as he blocked a Feeney shot before keeper Joel Coleman again denied the forward.

The Trotters did extend their lead on the stroke of half time in bizarre circumstances as no fans celebrated the goal.
After a cross into the box, Madine and Feeney were at the back post but it appeared the last touch came from Wilson who bundled the ball into the goal to make it 2-0 to the visitors.
It was a slow start to the second half with both sides making a host of changes, and it was hard for Latics to build up any momentum.
With only 20 minutes of the game remaining, Coleman pulled a great save to deny Stephen Dobbie. The striker opened fire from 25 yards but the young goalkeeper did well to tip the drive round the post as Bolton looked the more likely side to add to their tally.
