Slovenian striker Alen Ploj impressed for Oldham Athletic in victory at Stirling Albion

July 17, 2015 by Tony Bugby

STIRLING ALBION 0, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 5

Oldham Athletic rounded off their training camp with an emphatic victory at Scottish second division side Stirling Albion.

Slovenian striker Alen Ploj, who is on trial, struck twice and there were also goals from Danny Philliskirk, Dominic Poleon and Rhys Turner.

Latics took less than seven minutes to make a breakthrough when Liam Kelly and Rhys Murphy linked to set up Danny Philliskirk who beat keeper Chris Smith with a neat finish.

Kelly and Dominic Poleon had chances to increase the lead before Ploj finally did so after 36 minutes after playing a neat return pass with Poloen.

Murphy went close with a free kick before Poleon made it three after 40 minutes with a neat finish past goalkeeper Smith, beating him at the near post.

Latics made seven changes at the break, but it was Ploj, one of the starting line up, who grabbed the fourth goal.
Philliskirk neatly played Poleon in behind the defence and his low cross into the box was turned in by Ploj.
By now, Latics were coasting and continued to press the Stirling defence with George Green at the centre of the action and he provided the pass for Turner to slot home the fifth goal.
Latics had chances to add a sixth goal as Turner, Philliskirk and substitute Danny Byrnes all went close in this comfortable victory.
