Wigan get another repeat of FA Cup final against Manchester City in Fifth Round draw

January 29, 2018 by Paul Chan

Revenge could be on the minds of both Manchester clubs following the draw for the Fifth Round of this season’s Emirates FA Cup as the remaining Premier League sides were kept apart.

Wigan Athletic and potentially Huddersfield Town could be on the horizon for the Manchester clubs.

Runaway league leaders Manchester City will have the chance for FA Cup revenge on Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium after the two clubs were drawn together in the FA Cup 5th Round draw.

Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town on the FA Cup horizon for Manchester clubs?

Wigan famously beat City 1-0 thanks to a late Ben Watson goal in the final in 2013 and while City beat the Latics 5-0 in the Capital One Cup in September of the following season the Latics pulled off another FA Cup shock just 10 months after that famous day at Wembley, beating City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, despite City being on their way to the title and looking set to land a domestic treble that season.

Manchester United landed a potential return trip to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield Town who must first navigate an FA Cup replay at St Andrew’s against Birmingham City following a 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium in which both sides wasted chances.

The Terriers were the first domestic side to beat the Reds this season in their famous 2-1 win in blustery conditions last October but they travel to Old Trafford this weekend first where United, bolstered by the signing of Alexis Sanchez, will be eager to put the upset right and keep themselves ahead of the chasing pack in the Premier League.

Ties will be played across the weekend of February 17-18.
