Mossley coup as they sign former Liverpool star Adam Morgan

August 4, 2019 by Tony Bugby

Former Liverpool first-team player Adam Morgan’s arrival at Mossley has been described by manager Dave Wild as the club’s biggest signing in modern times.

Wild added it is a measure of Mossley’s ambition they have persuaded Morgan, 25, who played three times for Liverpool in the Europa League, to move to Seel Park.

He said: “We are lucky to get a player of that calibre which is Mossley’s biggest signing in recent times.

“We have seen while he was on trial he still has all the qualities that made him such a sought-after player earlier in his career.

“Adam is certainly capable of playing at a higher level but there is obviously a reason why he has dropped down so far.

“It is up to myself and my coaching staff to get the best out of him and help him kick on to play at a higher level which he undoubtedly can do.

“He is at the bottom of the trampoline and we want to help him spring up and back into full-time football.

“It is not a gamble for us and shows the local community our ambition. If it works out, we will have a born goalscorer.”

Indeed, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler once described the then teenager “as a finisher he is probably one of the best I’ve seen for a long, long time”.

Wild and his assistant Phil Carratt met Morgan for one-and-a-half hours to discuss the move.

He continued: “We wanted to see if Adam bought into our vision and where we fitted into him and his plans to get back up the footballing ladder.

“Within five minutes I knew he would fit the bill as he is a polite, courteous and hard-working lad and we were made for each other.”

A product of the academy at home-city Liverpool, Morgan played three times for Liverpool in the Europa League.

He was capped by England at Under-17 and 19 level and at one staged looked to have a glittering career ahead of him.

Following a transfer to Yeovil, who were then in the Championship, Morgan’s career has faltered. After a spell at Accrington Stanley has spent the last four seasons in non-league football.

Morgan played for Hemel Hempstead Town, Colwyn Bay, two spells at Curzon Ashton, FC Halifax Town and in Ireland for Sligo Rovers.

In his first spell at Curzon, Moran scored a hat-trick against AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup in a tie televised live. Curzon, 3-0 ahead with nine minutes left, lost 4-3.

Morgan was managed at Curzon by John Flanagan who is now an assistant manager at Mossley. He also played with Lilywhites’ striker Ryan Brooke at Curzon and the pair also had an influence on his decision.

  • Summer signing Astley Mullholland will be out for between eight and 10 weeks after breaking his leg in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly win at Abbey Hey.

Wild, who described Mullholland as being the victim of a “horror tackle”, added the break to the fibula is not as bad as was initially feared.

He added the player is in good spirits and everybody at the club will help keep his spirits up.
