Marcus Rashford scored a second United goal after 30 minutes – the first time since the opening day of the season the Reds had scored more than once in a game.

And Anthony Martial put the game beyond the Canaries in the 73rd minute, despite a late consolation for Onel Hernandez, with the Reds going up to 7th in the Premier League table on goal difference.

VAR had awarded United two controversial penalties in the first half but the Reds contrived to miss both spot kicks.

Rashford and Martial became the first team mates to each score a goal after missing a penalty in the same Premier League game as the Reds dominated Carrow Road and deservedly won.

After a slow start, Martial’s point blank header was saved by Tim Krul to concede a corner but Norwich City’s defence only half cleared the ball as far as Scott McTominay who put away the rebound to put the Reds into the lead after 21 minutes.

Daniel James ran into Ben Godfrey but referee Stuart Attwell’s initial decision not to award the penalty was overturned by VAR.

Marcus Rashford stepped up but his spot kick was saved by Krul as he tried to hit the bottom left corner.

But Rashford quacky atoned for his miss by scoring a couple of minutes later on the break after James found him.

Just before half time United won another penalty after Todd Cantwell was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball in his penalty area from Fred’s shot.

And this time Krul defied Anthony Martial from the penalty shot to leave the scores at 2-0 at the break.

Martial did get his goal later, though, and converted Rashford’s backheel into his path to atone for his earlier miss after 73 minutes.

Substitute Onel Hernandez scored a consolation for the Canaries with 2 minutes to go but it was too late for any shock comeback.
