Mossley lack firepower in home defeat by Colne

November 16, 2019 by Tony Bugby

MOSSLEY 0, COLNE 1

Mossley’s lack of firepower was evident in the home defeat by Colne in BetVictor Northern Premier League’s north west division.

It was the Lilywhites’ second blank in three games and the only goal in that spell came from central defender Andy Keogh.

Manager Dave Wild admitted finding a striker is his priority with Mossley languishing in the bottom half of the table.

It was a game of few chances, though Mossley had the better opportunities.

Bradley Lynch and Jes Uchegbulam were both denied by excellent saves from Hakan Burton in the opening quarter of an hour when the Liltwhites also had what appeared a blatant penalty appeal rejected after Uchegbulam looked to be fouled.

Colne had a couple of decent efforts, a free kick from Connor Hughes which flashed wider while William Harris shot into the side netting in a goalless opening period.

Mossley ought to have taken the lead with 20 minutes left when Lynch set up Gary Gee who amazing fired over from three yards.

Colne substitute Aidan Chependale was well denied by Mossley goalkeeper Theo Roberts with 12 minutes left.

Mossley failed to heed the warning Colne snatch victory through an 80th minute goal from Harris.

The striker was put clean through and nicked the ball past the onrushing Roberts for the only goal of the game.
