Hyde United have increased their firepower with the signing of striker Ethan Beckford, a player from a family steeped in professional football.
And manager Dave McGurk added he is pursuing another front player having put in seven days’ notice of approach to his club.
With only five goals from their first six league games, McGurk is mindful his side needs to sharpen its cutting edge in front of goal.
“We are solid at the back but limited at the other end where we are not creating enough chances,” he explained.
McGurk is delighted with the capture of Beckford, 21, whose father Jason and uncle Darren were both former Manchester City first-team players.
Ethan’s cousin is Danny Webber, the former Manchester United, Portsmouth and Leeds United striker.
Hyde were contacted by the Beckford family because Ethan has lived in Canada since 2012 when his family emigrated after his father took up a job as technical director at a football club.
Ethan was in the academy at Toronto FC and spent two years at Pennsylvania State University.
McGurk said: “Ethan has pace and is a strong boy who can take the hits. He wants to set a mark in this league.
“We had a practice match against Curzon Ashton and Ethan did well which is why we decided to offer him something to join the group.
“I have also seen clips of him playing in North America where he was outstanding, and I am looking forward to working with him.”
