A clash of two in-form teams saw Curzon Ashton hold National League North leaders King’s Lynn Town on a windy afternoon at the Tameside Stadium.

The Nash, unbeaten in their previous six league and cup games, returned to league action following their FA Cup win against FC United.

The Linnets came into the game top of the table and unbeaten after eight games.

As expected, the visitors had the best of the early knockings with captain Michael Clunan hitting the bar after 16 minutes.

Curzon found most of their joy on the counterattack but failed to really create anything clear cut.

The best chance of the half fell to Linnets’ striker Gold Omotayo whose close-range header was saved brilliantly by Chris Renshaw just before the interval.

Both teams came out all guns blazing, and it was Curzon who broke the deadlock. Will Hayhurst was brought down in the area by Paul Jones and Josh Hancock stepped up and smashed home the resulting penalty.

However, the hosts’ lead wouldn’t last, with the Linnets equalising a little over 15 minutes later.

Midfielder Cameron Hargreaves tapped into an open goal following two great saves from Renshaw who also made two more super stops to deny Omotayo and Ben Stephens to preserve parity.

The Nash will be the happier of the two sides, as they prepare to play Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday as King’s Lynn will be hoping for better luck against Kettering the same night.

Goals: Hancock (50) for Curzon Ashton. Hargreaves (63) for King’s Lynn Town.

Curzon Ashton (4-2-3-1): Renshaw; Mahon; Matthews; Poscha; Hampson; Walker (Hall 39); Barton; Richards; Hayhurst; Hancock (Dimaio 83); Peers (Waring 79).
