PLAYER RATINGS

Stefan Ortega: 8. Saved twice each from Christian Pulisic and from Lewis Hall, tipped away a lofted cross by Hakim Ziyech.

Rico Lewis: 7. Comfortable start at right back, distribution a little wayward but some of his crosses would have had Erling Haaland salivating. Looked the part.

Ruben Dias: 7. Cruised through the game.

Aymeric Laporte: 7. Some nerves after he was poleaxed by Christian Pulisic while he was shooting. Almost gave away a chance later in the first half but improved. Went off early as a precautionary measure.

Sergio Gomez: 6. Early shot went wide. Wary of Ruben Loftus-Cheek but kept him at bay

Rodri: 6. Relaxed midfield performance. Sprayed passes around and had a shot.

Ilkay Gundogan: 6. Free kick deflected over the bar.

Cole Palmer: 7. Pressed all night, had a couple of shots saved, good movement.

Riyad Mahrez: 8. Came inside more than usual, had some shots saved, scored a brilliant free kick and his shot was fumbled by Edouard Mendy only for Julian Alvarez to finish it off.

Jack Grealish: 8. Early runs to stretch legs and draw Chelsea players out for fouls. Created early chances with risky moves, sent a shot wide of the near post and forced several saves from Edouard Mendy.

Julian Alvarez: 8. Nimble work up front. Unsettled the Chelsea defence, had a shot blocked, and had another saved. Rewarded for his resistance with a tap in after Mendy failed to hold a shot by Riyad Mahrez.

Bernardo Silva (on for Ilkay Gundogan, 50): 6. Hassled the Chelsea midfield.

Kalvin Phillips (on for Rodri, 50): 6. Held the fort while City went and won the game.

Nathan Ake (on for Aymeric Laporte, 81): No time to mark.
