Manchester United 2, Leeds United 2 – Player Ratings

Manchester United 2, Leeds United 2

Manchester United came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Leeds United in an enthralling encounter at Old Trafford.

Wilfried Gnonto put Leeds 1-0 up after 55 seconds, and 3 minutes into the second half they were 2-0 down after Crysensio Summerville’s shot was deflected past David De Gea by Raphael Varane.

But the Reds came roaring back soon afterwards when Marcus Rashford – moved to a centre forward position – scored after 62 minutes with a header from Diogo Dalot’s cross.

And there was bedlam when substitute Jadon Sancho scored the equaliser through a forest of legs.

Leeds might have scored another goal but Brenden Aaronson hit the woodwork and they kept out the Reds who were themselves going for a late winner.

PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 2, Leeds United 2

David De Gea: 6. Saved from Pascal Struijk early on. Raphael Varane’s own goal went past him and was lucky to see Brenden Aaronson’s shot come off his post.

Diogo Dalot: 6. Allowed Wilfried Gnonto a run on goal but super cross allowed United to pull a goal back

Raphael Varane: 6. Unlucky with own goal. Denied with several efforts on goal

Lisandro Martinez: 6. Wholehearted at the back and up front. Slid in on Wilfried Gnonto who was in a dangerous area just outside the United box and might have given away a penalty if it were a yard nearer to goal after a brief VAR check.

Luke Shaw: 7. Better going forward that hanging back and it was his run that contributed to Jadon Sancho’s equaliser.

Fred: 6. Given midfield responsibility but missed his fellow Brazilian midfielder Casemiro and had to hold the fort, which he did badly. Wayward shooting.

Marcel Sabitzer: 6. Long range shots, one saved by Ilian Meslier, and decent range of passing going forward. Didn’t lend much help to Fred defensively.

Bruno Fernandes: 6. Good crossing but ruffled by the Leeds press. Shooting wayward.

Marcus Rashford: 7. One fierce shot left Pascal Struijk needing treatment – having hit the back of his head. Started the comeback with a header in the second half when stationed at centre forward.

Alejandro Garnacho: 6. Rasping shot went just wide with just the keeper to beat and another cleared off the line by Max Wober. Otherwise quiet.

Wout Weghorst: 6. One dimensional up front, dropped deep but not as involved as Erik Ten Hag would have liked.

Jadon Sancho (on for Wout Weghorst, 59): 7. Scored a great goal in conjunction with Luke Shaw. Looked bright.

Facundo Pellestri (on for Alejandro Garnacho, 59): 6. Involved in the Marcus Rashford goal.

Tyrell Malacia (on for Diogo Dalot, 82): No time to mark

Victor Lindelof (on Marcel Sabitzer, 82): No time to mark
