Kenny Tete put the visitors 1-0 up after 19 minutes when United failed to pick him up at a corner.

Aleksandar Mitrovic missed a spot kick which would have put Fulham 2-0 up and the Cottagers paid the price as Jadon Sancho levelled matters on 39 minutes.

Bruno Fernandes then put the Reds into the lead after 55 minutes after created space to get onto Fred’s through ball.

And despite Marcus Rashford’s attempts to get a goal, the Reds had to be content to see out the game as they finished in third place behind Arsenal.

PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 2, Fulham 1

David De Gea: 7. Poor ball out by the keeper almost put the team in danger. Saved Aleksandar Mitrovic’s spot kick and denied Carlos Vinicius and Manor Solomon late in the game to redeem himself.

Diogo Dalot: 6. Still better going forward than defensively.

Harry Maguire: 6. Old Trafford farewell for the captain?

Victor Lindelof: 6. Assured at the back.

Tyrell Malacia: 6. Audition for FA Cup final, popular tackle and clearance in second half but was scythed down by Joao Palhinha after completing it and later attacked by Aleksandar Mitrovic as United tried to see out the game.

Casemiro: 7. Tripped Aleksandar Mitrovic to give away a spot kick. Made up for it with some strong attacking play and searching balls forward.

Fred: 8. Wholeheartedly got stuck in on a rare start. Was in a great position running on goal when Tete tackled him and the loose ball fell to Jadon Sancho for the equaliser. His though ball set up Buno Fernandes to put United in the lead.

Alejandro Garnacho: 6. Shot wide after receiving a cross from Bruno Fernandes, very front footed mentality.

Bruno Fernandes: 8. Given little room to rest but created enough space to finish off Fred’s through ball to put United in the lead.

Jadon Sancho: 7. Stuck on the right wing where he had another quiet game until he came inside and stabbed home the equaliser, flashes of talent throughout though.

Marcus Rashford: 6. 25 yard free kick tipped away by Bernd Leno and saw another long range effort go wide. Made himself a pest up front but couldn’t get on the scoresheet despite his best efforts against Leno. Pushed out to the left flank after Anthony Martial came on before getting a rest.

Christian Eriksen (on for Fred, 67): 6. Put in some good passes from a deep role.

Anthony Martial (on for Alejandro Garnacho, 67): 6. Went up front, could have set up Wout Weghorst but for a poor finish by the Dutch striker.

Scott McTominay (on for Casemiro, 67): 6. Went into the holding role.

Wout Weghorst (on for Marcus Rashford, 77): No time to mark.

Facundo Pellistri (on for Bruno Fernandes, 84): No time to mark.
