Manchester United 0, Newcastle United 3 – Player Ratings

Manchester United 0, Newcastle United 3 – Carabao Cup Round 4

Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock scored the goals that let Newcastle United dump Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.

It was another terrible performance from the Reds – who were clearly booed by their fans once again – and who have lost eight or more of their first 15 games in a season for the first time since 1962-63 and shipped three or more goals in consecutive home defeats for the first tine since October 1962.

PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 0, Newcastle United 3 – Carabao Cup Round 4

Andre Onana: 5. Beaten three times but still had to make save from Joe Willock to make sure it didn’t get worse.

Diogo Dalot: 3. Trailing in the wake of Miguel Almiron, could do nothing about the first goal but was bamboozled by Joe Willock for the second goal. Screwed a tame effort wide towards the end of the first half and then replaced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the break.

Victor Lindelof: 5. Restored to centre back, looked more comfortable but the game played out around him.

Harry Maguire: 3. Good start but drawn away for the crucial Newcastle opener. Poor clearance for Newcastle’s second and blocked off by Anthony Gordon for the third.

Sergio Reguilon: 5. On the road back from injury layoff but little effect on the game

Hannibal: 4. Needlessly fouled early on and will miss the next Carabao Cup game and could have been sent off minutes later when he scythed down Emil Krafth. Struggled in midfield after Casemiro went off.

Casemiro: 4. Booked early. Sailed a bit close to the wind with some tasty tackles but got an early shot in for the Reds. Poor distribution in midfield and not exactly rousing his . Replaced at half time by Sofyan Ambrabat.

Antony: 4. Tricks but not much more; blazed over a Hollywood shot in the second half but there was nobody to aim at in the middle.

Mason Mount: 4. Anonymous and wasted 2 good chances to score in the first half before forcing a save from Martin Dubravka with a 30 yard effort, got some balls into the box in the second half but a shot arrowed high into the Stretford End summed up his and United’s evening.

Alejandro Garnacho: 3. Rare start. Sloppy on the ball. Lost it for the crucial Newcastle opener to the excellent Tino Livramento. Provided little threat going forward and no service.

Anthony Martial: 3. No physical presence and starved of service – looked like a spare part until he was taken off.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (on for Diogo Dalot, 46): 5. Warm welcome as he came on to combat Miguel Almiron after he got his goal. Got a cross in but couldn’t affect much on his flank.

Sofyan Ambrabat (on for Casemiro, 46): 4. Robbed by Joelinton for Newcastle’s third goal.

Rasmus Hojlund (on for Anthony Martial, 64): 5. Game was lost when he came on and he spent too much time running down alleys.

Marcus Rashford (on for Alejandro Garnacho, 64): 4. Anonymous.

Bruno Fernandes (on for Hannibal, 64): 4. Ineffective.
