Manchester United 2, Tottenham 2

It was honours even at Old Trafford as Manchester United held off a dominant Tottenham side to draw 2-2 with goals by Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford but Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur equalised for Tottenham.

Hojlund got the Reds off to a flying start, putting away the loose ball after Destiny Udogie had tackled Marcus Rashford after just 3 minutes.

Spurs were level after 19 minutes when United failed to clear a Pedro Porro corner and Richarlison was given a free header which he diverted inside the back post.

Udogie headed against his own post as United threatened only sporadically before Rashford got his first goal in 15 appearances at Old Trafford after exchanging passes with Hojlund 12 yards out.

Christian Romero’s header came back off the crossbar as Spurs once again threatened from corners.

And 50 seconds into the second half Spurs were back on terms after United failed to deal with Rodrigo Bentancur running into the box before drilling home from 6 yards.

Both sides attacked each other but slowed down in the final quarter although Scott McTominay missed a prime chance to win the game in the final minute of stoppage time when he put his free header over the bar from 7 yards out.

PLAYER RATINGS – Manchester United 2, Tottenham 2

Andre Onana: 6. Could have done better at set pieces but also saved well from Richarlison.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6. Played at left back to look after Brennan Johnson and Pedro Porro double team.

Raphael Varane: 6. Had to do a fair bit of running as the game ebbed and flowed, weak at set pieces.

Jonny Evans: 6. Headed away a chance by Timo Werner. Got some good interceptions in but vulnerable to turn overs. Was too slow to try and close down Rodrigo Bentancur.

Diogo Dalot: 7. Had to clear a header by Brennan Johnson off the line. Was very busy defensively but got stuck in on a more familiar side for him.

Christian Eriksen: 6. Filled in holes in midfield and distributed the ball well before he got tired.

Kobbie Mainoo: 6. Held his own against Oliver Skipp but midfield was a battleground which United ceded to Spurs.

Alejandro Garnacho: 6. Battle with Destiny Udogie but the Spurs man won his fair share of duels. Delivered a superb cross in the final minute but Scott McTominay missed with his header.

Bruno Fernandes: 7. Started the move that ended with an early lead for United with a long ball from deep in midfield. Kept probing the Spurs defence with balls over the top. Robbed by Rodrigo Bentancur just as he was clean through.

Marcus Rashford: 7. Got into promising positions but let down by final ball decisions until he got a return pass from Rasmus Hojlund which he despatched from 12 yards out. Robbed of a chance to score a second as Spurs swarmed him as he ran free in the second half.

Rasmus Hojlund: 8. Second Premier League goal in as many games for the Dane who also set up Marcs Rashford’s goal and seems to be taking off at last.

Scott McTominay (on for Christian Eriksen, 58): 6. Shot went just wide of the back post soon after he came on. Missed an absolute sitter to win it in the final minute of stoppage time when he headed over from 7 yards out after Alejandro Garnacho delivered the ball to him.

Lisandro Martinez (on for Jonny Evans, 63): 6. Big cheer when the Argentine returned and he gave Richarlison something to think about.

Antony (on for Marcus Rashford, 88): No time to mark
