There has been further silverware for the locally based Sala Futsal Club.
The U16 girls won the plate competition at the National Youth Championships which were held in Leeds.
Sala, which is run by Mossley-based Neil Lucas, were unlucky to lose 4-3 in the first round to Project Football who went on to win the main competition.
“On another day, we could have won it because it was that close,” explained Neil.
As first-round losers, Sala went into the Plate where they triumphed in all four matches, beating Hutton FC, from Weston-Super-Mare, 9-2 in the final.
“We were only 2-1 ahead at half time and under the cosh,” Neil continued.
“Our keeper Evie Lee, who has just landed a scholarship at Repton School, Derbyshire, played a blinder.”
Three members of the team – Grace Foster, Emily Staunton and Jane Yip – were members of the Sala side which won the U14 national title last year.

This was also the fourth successive year in which the U16a have reached a national final.
Neil’s son Oscar was a member of Bolton Futsal who were crowned national champions.
And next month Oscar, who was once in Liverpool’s academy, is off to Athens, Greece, for the pre-qualifying round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League.
Bolton are in a group with host club AEK Athens, Hungary’s Veszprem and Sjarmtrollan Il, from Norway.
Sala train at St Damian’s RC Science College, Ashton, each Thursday (6pm for boys and girls aged six to 11 and 7pm for U12 and U13 team training).
Therea are also U9 and I10 academy session at Fairfield High School each Monday (6pm-7pm).
Neil also coaches the seniors at Manchester Futsal Club which train at Belle Vue Leisure Centre each Tuesday (7.30pm). They have just been promoted to Tier 1 of the National Futsal Series after winning Tier 2 North.
