Wolves 0, Manchester City 4
Erling Haaland scored a brace and there were debut goals for Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki as Manchester City beat Wolves at Molineux.
Embed from Getty ImagesWolves had an early Marshall Munetsi header ruled out for a clear offside while Jorgen Strand Larsen went close several times for City’s hosts.
But there was little chance of Vitor Pereira’s side coming back after two first half goals in the space of under four minutes by City.
Reijnders started the move with clever dink over the defence for Rico Lewis to square to City’s talismanic striker for a four yard tap-in to break the deadlock after 34 minutes.
Reijnders slotted in the second shortly afterwards after he was set free by Oscar Bobb to fire home from 16 yards out.
And in the second half the Dutchman turned provider for Haaland to score his second of the match, cutting Bobb’s square pass back to the big Norwegian who had found space at the edge of the area to find the inside of the back post from just inside the box shortly after the hour mark.
It was Haaland’s tenth goal against Wolves – his favourite opponents in the Premier League.
Another City debutant James Trafford, in for the unwell Ederson, had to make a couple of crucial saves to keep his clean sheet.
And the rout was complete after 81 minutes when Rayan Cherki, one of a raft of second half changes made by City boss Pep Guardiola, made it four with a perfectly paced strike from the edge of the area.
