MANCHESTER CITY 5, SWANSEA CITY 0

After winning the third Premier League title in six years on their sofas following Manchester United’s unexpected defeat to West Brom last weekend Manchester City laid on a special game as a gift for fans who gave the Etihad a party atmosphere and were rewarded with more champagne football as the Blues thrashed Swansea 5-0.

Goals by David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Gabriel Jesus secured City’s fourth five goal winning home margin this season.

Pep Guardiola made two changes to the side which beat Spurs last weekend. Danilo and Bernardo Silva replaced Kyle Walker and Leroy Sane.

BOURNEMOUTH 0, MANCHESTER UNITED 2

A much-changed Manchester United beat Bournemouth 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium to lift them following a dismal Old Trafford defeat at the hands of basement club West Brom on Sunday. 

Goals by Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku gave the Reds a 4 point cushion over nearest Premier League rivals Liverpool with four games to go as the Reds eased in to their FA Cup Semi final game against Tottenham at Wembley this weekend.

Goals by Reading’s Remi Allen and Kirsty Pearce condemned Man City Women, who also lost Jill Scott to injury, to their first home defeat this season but the title remains within reach despite their inability to break down their visitors who were reduced to ten players after the late sending off of Jo Potter.

Southgate’s England going through changes but capable of winning performances in the World Cup in Russia

Gareth Southgate’s England may have beaten a Netherlands side that failed to reach a second consecutive major football finals but there are signs of green shoots of recovery after a long winter following the sad debacle against Iceland during Euro 2016.

Almost two years after England failed to perform against Iceland in Nice, Southgate has qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the first of four friendlies will help the young England boss decide who will be on the plane in the summer.
