Oldham Athletic stung by Blackburn Rovers on an afternoon in which a swarm of bees threatened the pre-season friendly from being played

July 25, 2015 by Tony Bugby

OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0, BLACKBURN ROVERS 2

Oldham Athletic were stung by Blackburn Rovers on an afternoon when a swarm of bees caused mayhem at SportsDirect.Com Park.

The bees attached themselves to a goalpost on Saturday lunchtime putting the game in jeopardy until they were removed by a local beekeeper who had been summoned to the ground.

Latics’ efforts counted for nothing as they were beaten at home by Championship club Rovers who secured victory through second-half goals from Nathan Delfouneso and Craig Conway.

It was still a good workout for Latics who held their more lofty opponents for almost one hour.

Latics started well as Rhys Murphy, Connor Brown, Carl Winchester, Lee Croft and Joseph Mills all had chances in the opening half.

Latics made a host of substitutions at the break with Jack Truelove, Timothee Dieng, Rhys Turner, George Green and Alen Ploj all coming on for the second period..

After a bright start to the second period, however, it was the visitors who took the lead just before the hour mark.
Craig Conway’s free kick found the head of Delfouneso and he nodded past David Cornell giving the goalkeeper no chance.
The visitors started to dominate proceedings and the visitors doubled their lead after 84 minutes through Conway. The forward raced inside the box and thundered a strike past keeper David Cornell to seal victory for the visitors.
