Leroy Sane injured during Manchester City’s FA Cup win at Cardiff City

January 28, 2018 by Paul Chan

CARDIFF CITY 0, MANCHESTER CITY 2

Manchester City cruised into the Fifth Round of the FA Cup despite losing winger Leroy Sane to a nasty challenge on the stroke of half time against a physical Cardiff City side.

Kevin De Bruyne gave City the lead with a clever free kick after just eight minutes, and Bernardo Silva had a goal questionably disallowed before Raheem Sterling doubled the lead with a rare header.

The Bluebirds were lucky not to get reduced to ten men on the stroke of half time after Joe Bennett cynically hacked down Leroy Sane on the edge of the box with a dangerous tackle after the German had run almost the length of the pitch on a swift break.

Bruno Manga was also in the book for a nasty follow-through on Sergio Aguero, Sane’s replacement, after both sides had tried to add to the scoresheet in the second period before Bennett was finally handed his marching orders in stoppage time for a nasty challenge on Brahim Diaz.

Huddersfield Town must go to a replay after being held by Birmingham City

David Wagner Huddersfield Town vs Birmingham City FA Cup 4th Round 2018

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1, BIRMINGHAM CITY 1 (FA CUP 4th ROUND)

David Wagner’s side were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal and both teams will have to go again in the FA Cup at St Andrew’s after Huddersfield Town were held to a draw by Championship side Birmingham City who did enough to beat the Terriers but for a great late save by Joel Coleman.

Town’s opening goal by Steve Mounie was cancelled out in the second half by Lukas Jutkiewicz. Jutkiewicz had a goal ruled out for offside and had a late effort saved as the visitors finished strongly.

Alexis Sanchez has his Manchester United debut at Yeovil Town as the Reds cruise into 5th Round of the FA Cup

January 26, 2018 by Paul Chan

YEOVIL TOWN 0, MANCHESTER UNITED 4

Jose Mourinho had even more to celebrate this week with an FA Cup victory over Yeovil Town in a week in which he turned 55, signed a new contract extension with Manchester United, snatched Alexis Sanchez from rivals Manchester City, and watched the Chilean lay on the ball that saw Marcus Rashford score after hesitation in the Yeovil defence shortly before the break.

Ander Herrera fired home the second just after the hour and although Juan Mata had a late effort disallowed for offside, Jesse Lingard hit a third a minute from time before Romelu Lukaku’s injury time tap-in completed the rout against their exhausted hosts.

Derby delight but nowhere to ‘Hyde’ for neighbours Mossley

January 23, 2018 by Tony Bugby

HYDE UNITED 5, MOSSLEY 1 YOU would imagined Mossley would have learned from their mistakes as they were heavily beaten at high-flying Hyde United in an Evo Stik League, first division north derby. That was not the case as Hyde’s first four goals all came from long balls over their defence as Mossley were caught […]
