Marko Arnautovic destroys Huddersfield Town as West Ham apply clinical finishing

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1, WEST HAM 4

Marko Arnautovic was the West Ham hero as Huddersfield Town wilted in the second half after matching the Hammers during a first half filled with endeavour if not shots on target.

The Austrian first won the ball that Mark Noble opened the scoring with, before scoring seconds into the second half and laying on both of Manuel Lanzini’s goals shortly afterwards.

Joe Lolley was responsible for West Ham’s opening goal but atoned for the error with a great equaliser before the visitors overwhelmed them in the second half to secure West Ham manager David Moyes his 200th win in the Premier League.

Defeat at the hands of West Ham left Town closer to the drop zone in 13th place on 24 points – just 4 points from Stoke in 18th, with their opponents leapfrogging them into 11th on 25 points.

Manchester City EDS beat Liverpool U23 but lose Benjamin Garre in injury hit game

Goals by Lorenzo Gonzalez, Rabbi Matondo, and Felix Nmecha wiped out an early Harry Wilson penalty for Liverpool who could only score a late consolation through Toni Gomes as the struggling Manchester City EDS side, who lost Benjamin Garre to injury, toppled Premier League 2 league leaders Liverpool at the City Football Academy.

City were lucky to win after Liverpool had served out the better chances in an injury hit game in which three players were substituted in an extended first half that lasted nearly an hour thanks to extended injury time with injury niggles on both sides throughout the game.

Manchester City leave it late as injury-time goal from Sergio Aguero earns 2-1 first-leg lead in Carabao Cup semi-final against Bristol City

MAN CITY 2, BRISTOL CITY 1

Sergio Aguero came off the bench to score a dramatic injury-time winner as Manchester City take a slender 2-1 lead to Ashton Gate for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Bristol City.

City certainly needed one of their big guns to overcome a Bristol side that had already beaten four Premier League games in the knockout.

It was cruel on Lee Johnson’s Championship club that produced a heroic display and even spent 11 minutes either side of the break holding the lead through a Bobby Reid penalty.

City equalised through Kevin De Bruyne and had to summon Aguero and Kyle Walker in the latter stages in an effort to conjure a winner.

Oldham Athletic lack cutting edge as defeat at Charlton Athletic makes it six games without a win

January 6, 2018 by Tony Bugby

CHARLTON ATHLETIC 1, OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0 Oldham Athletic’s lack of a cutting edge was evident as they lost at Charlton Athletic. It extended Latics’ winless run to six games with manager Richie Wellens later declaring he needed two new strikers. Aaron Amadi-Holloway was the chief culprit as he failed to convert two clear-cut chances in […]

Manchester City’s FA Cup fortunes turn on controversial free kick against Burnley

MAN CITY 4, BURNLEY 1

Manchester City’s fortunes in their Emirates FA Cup, third-round win against Burnley turned on a controversial free kick.

City were 1-0 behind and had laboured for almost an hour before they equalised with a questionable goal.

If your allegiances were with City it was a stroke of genius, but for the Clarets it was anything but that.

Burnley were still lining up when Ilkay Gundogan took a quick kick and released Sergio Aguero who raced clear to score.

And while the Clarets were still reeling from that body blow, Aguero quickly added a second goal, his 18th of the season and a phenomenal 16 in 16 FA Cup ties for City.
