Man Utd v CSKA Moscow

MAN UTD 2 CSKA MOSCOW 1

Manchester United extended their unbeaten home record to a remarkable 40 games to equal a 51-year-old club record with victory against CSKA Moscow.

The win ensured the Reds go into the knockout phase of the Champions League as group A winners, though manager Jose Mourinho played down its significance.

“I am not playing for records – the record I wanted was to win the Europa League for the first time. There are more important things than that, though it is nice,” he said.

Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford in a deadly 66-second spell ensured United headed the section with 15 points from a possible 18.

MAN CITY 2, WEST HAM 1

Manchester City’s form has dipped, but they keep on winning as they stumbled past struggling West Ham at the Etihad.

In the past week City’s displays against Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham have failed to hit the dizzy heights of early season.

What would ordinarily have been three comfortable wins turned out to be three nail-biters with victory only secured through late goals.

Manchester United thank David De Gea for weathering Arsenal storm but lose Paul Pogba for next week’s Derby

ARSENAL 1, MANCHESTER UNITED 3

Manchester United kept the heat up on their title rivals Manchester City by winning handsomely at Arsenal to reduce Pep Guardiola’s side to a five point lead ahead of City’s home game against West Ham on Sunday.

It was a stylish win which should silence some of the criticism of Jose Mourinho’s ‘defensive’ tactics in the way that his United side applied three killer blows from just 4 shots on targets while David De Gea kept out a barrage of Arsenal attacks.

Both sides were unchanged from their last matches but this match didn’t seem to suffer from any perceived tiredness.
