Jose Mourinho criticises Manchester United players after FA Cup win against Brighton

March 17, 2018 by Tony Bugby

Jose Mourinho Brighton FA Cup QF March 2018

MAN UTD 2, BRIGHTON 0

Manchester United made it through to a record equalling 29th Emirates FA Cup semi-final with victory against Brighton at a wintry Old Trafford.

It was a workmanlike, rather than spectacular, display from the Reds as they overcame the spirited Seagulls.

Indeed, Brighton had more than twice as many goal attempts, but it was United who had the cutting edge as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic sealed victory.

Spirited Stalybridge Celtic upset league leaders Altrincham

March 17, 2018 by Tony Bugby

ALTRINCHAM 1, STALYBRIDGE CELTIC 2 Manager Steve Burr praised his players as Stalybridge Celtic took a giant step towards safety in Evo Stik League, premier division with victory at top-of-the-table Altrincham. It was the surprise result of the day as goals from Matty Wolfenden and Liam Dickinson enabled lowly Celtic to dent Robins’ promotion hopes. […]

Oldham Athletic home loss to Portsmouth leaves them still close to drop zone

OLDHAM ATHLETIC 0, PORTSMOUTH 2 Oldham Athletic suffered a first defeat in six matches as they lost at home against Portsmouth to remain perilously close to the relegation places in Sky Bet League One. It was a disappointing afternoon at wintery Boundary Park as Latics were beaten by out-of-form Pompey who had lost four of […]

Manchester United’s Champions League hopes sunk by Sevilla super-sub Wissam Ben Yedder

Jose Mourinho Man Utd vs Sevilla Post Match Press Conference March 2018

MAN UNITED 1, SEVILLA FC 2

(Sevilla won 2-1 on aggregate)

Manchester United’s dream of Champions League glory became a nightmare as they bowed out to Spanish side Sevilla FC in the last 16.

It was a hugely disappointing night for the Reds at Old Trafford where Sevilla substitute Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice in the space of four minutes.

The Frenchman scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season in all competitions including six in the group stage of Champions League, two of which were against Liverpool.

United were left needing to score three times in the last 12 minutes – plus four of added time. And though Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back it was a case of too little, too late.

David Silva returns from Spain to conjure Man City win at Stoke

March 12, 2018 by Paul Chan

STOKE CITY 0, MANCHESTER CITY 2

Manchester City visited Stoke City on a rainy Monday night and veteran midfielder David Silva turned on the magic to score twice and restore City’s 16 point Premier League lead with eight games to go.

Silva had been commuting between Manchester and Valencia, training alone in Spain after being given compassionate leave to visit home regularly in recent months after his son had been born prematurely.

Arguably Stoke’s best chance came from a spectacular possible own goal by Kyle Walker which was tipped away by Ederson – the home side didn’t even muster a shot on target to test the Brazilian all game long.
