Romelu Lukaku to the rescue as Manchester United scrape past AFC Bournemouth

December 13, 2017 by Tony Bugby

Jose Mourinho Bournemouth Post Match Press Conference December 13, 2017

MAN UNITED 1, AFC BOURNEMOUTH 0 Romelu Lukaku spared Manchester United’s blushes with the match-winning goal in an underwhelming home victory against AFC Bournemouth. The striker’s 15th goal of the season – but only his second in the last 10 Premier League games – was all that separated the teams. But on the balance of […]

Terriers brought down to earth by Willian masterclass during comfortable Chelsea win

Huddersfield Town and Chelsea Lineups Greet Each Other

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1, CHELSEA 3

Willian scored one and made two other Chelsea goals as Huddersfield Town went 3-0 down within 50 minutes at a rainswept John Smith’s Stadium.

Town were unpicked by two first half goals by Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willian as Chelsea bounced back from weekend disappointment against West Ham with a richly deserved performance against a fatigued looking Huddersfield Town side who were down and out after just 50 minutes when Pedro blasted Willian’s layoff past Jonas Lossl.

Laurent Depoitre’s headed goal in injury time was a scant consolation for a Town side who had been throughly outclassed by Chelsea who were on cruise control by the end, going down to an eighth defeat in their last 11 games.

Manchester City move 11 points clear at the top after ending Manchester United’s 40 game unbeaten home run

December 10, 2017 by Tony Bugby

Jose Mourinho Manchester Derby Post Match Press Conference December 10th 2017

MAN UNITED 1, MAN CITY 2

The Premier League title race looks all but over following Manchester City’s win against neighbours United at Old Trafford.

It was a massive statement from Pep Guardiola’s side in this battle of the Premier League’s top two.

City made it 14 straight league wins – a Premier League record for one season and equal to Arsenal’s total over two seasons – to move 11 points clear.

And City also ended United’s remarkable run of 40 home games unbeaten – they were the last team to win at Old Trafford in September 2016.

Biggest win of the season as Oldham Athletic demolish Northampton Town 5-1

OLDHAM ATHLETIC 5, NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1 Oldham Athletic recorded their biggest win of the season with the 5-1 demolition of lowly Northampton Town at SportsDirect.com Park. Jack Byrne scored a brace while Tope Obadeyi, Gevaro Nepomuceno and Craig Davies also found the net in a dominant display. Manager Richie Wellens made three changes to the […]

Steve Mounie double fires Huddersfield Town above Brighton

December 9, 2017 by Paul Chan

David Wagner's post match press conference after the Huddersfield Town vs Brighton game on Saturday, December 9, 2017

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2, BRIGHTON 0

A Steve Mounie double in the first half put dominant Huddersfield Town on their way in a very confident win against Brighton.

The Terriers could afford to waste a hatful of chances in the second half before they secured an invaluable three points and leapfrogged their opponents Brighton to go 11th with 18 points after a richly deserved fifth Premier League win of the season and the first since the 1-0 against West Brom at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town had endured a four game losing streak and hadn’t scored in six since Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre despatched Manchester United at the John Smith’s Stadium in October.

They looked a lot more fluent against Brighton who may have been feeling the effects of a midweek 5-1 home hammering at the hands of Liverpool and the Seagulls faded badly towards the end.
