Kevin De Bruyne signs a new contract to stay at Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new two-year contract extension at Manchester City to keep him at the Etihad for until 2023.

The Belgian play-maker, a 2015 signing from Wolfsburg, has scored 31 goals in 122 appearances to date and no Premier League player has made more than 38 assists since he joined City.

He becomes the latest Manchester City player to commit his future to the club following recently announced deals for Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi.

Manchester City leave it late as injury-time goal from Sergio Aguero earns 2-1 first-leg lead in Carabao Cup semi-final against Bristol City

Sergio Aguero came off the bench to score a dramatic injury-time winner as Manchester City take a slender 2-1 lead to Ashton Gate for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Bristol City.

City certainly needed one of their big guns to overcome a Bristol side that had already beaten four Premier League games in the knockout.

It was cruel on Lee Johnson’s Championship club that produced a heroic display and even spent 11 minutes either side of the break holding the lead through a Bobby Reid penalty.

City equalised through Kevin De Bruyne and had to summon Aguero and Kyle Walker in the latter stages in an effort to conjure a winner.

Manchester City’s winning run comes to an end at Crystal Palace as Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne are stretchered off

CRYSTAL PALACE 0, MANCHESTER CITY 0

There was late drama at Selhurst Park as Luka Milivojevic’s injury time penalty was saved by Ederson in one of the most eventful goalless matches at Crystal Palace as Manchester City’s 18 game winning run came to an end in South London.

Unlike many teams coming up against City, Crystal Palace had a real go and made a game of it at Selhurst Park but City, who lost Gabriel Jesus to a serious looking knee injury early on and Kevin De Bruyne in injury time, could not find a way past their hosts who – in contrast with other teams facing City recently – played a full part in an absorbing game against Pep Guardiola’s team in the first half.

City had hit the woodwork through Sergio Aguero and were denied by last ditch defending and Wayne Hennessey saves while Palace could have snatched a late goal from eight yards in the second half before the injury time drama.

City ended the year on 59 points having dropped their first Premier League points on the road this season, 14 ahead of nearest rivals Chelsea, but will worry about the fitness of Jesus and De Bruyne with a full set of January fixtures ahead.

Manchester City may rotate squad for Newcastle United game after Kevin De Bruyne was sick before the Bournemouth win

Pep Guardiola's pre-match preview for Newcastle United vs Man City 27th December 2017

Pep Guardiola may have to rotate his Manchester City team in forthcoming Premier League games after admitting Kevin De Bruyne was sick before the Bournemouth game last Saturday.

De Bruyne was sick and had just one training session before starting City’s 4-0 win over the Cherries but signalled the bench to come off after 74 minutes with the Blues 2-0 up.

“He was sick.” admitted Guardiola. “The last two or three days he vomited and had a fever. He dropped two or three kilos.”
