Jose Mourinho criticises Manchester United players after FA Cup win against Brighton

Manchester United made it through to a record equalling 29th Emirates FA Cup semi-final with victory against Brighton at a wintry Old Trafford.

It was a workmanlike, rather than spectacular, display from the Reds as they overcame the spirited Seagulls.

Indeed, Brighton had more than twice as many goal attempts, but it was United who had the cutting edge as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic sealed victory.

Manchester United’s Champions League hopes sunk by Sevilla super-sub Wissam Ben Yedder

Manchester United’s dream of Champions League glory became a nightmare as they bowed out to Spanish side Sevilla FC in the last 16.

It was a hugely disappointing night for the Reds at Old Trafford where Sevilla substitute Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice in the space of four minutes.

The Frenchman scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season in all competitions including six in the group stage of Champions League, two of which were against Liverpool.

United were left needing to score three times in the last 12 minutes – plus four of added time. And though Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back it was a case of too little, too late.

Nemanja Matic rocket wins it for Manchester United at Crystal Palace

CRYSTAL PALACE 2, MANCHESTER UNITED 3

Nemanja Matic’s injury time rocket sealed a brilliant comeback for Manchester United who overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and retake second place in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s touchline slip late in a remarkable game at Selhurst Park seemed to sum up Manchester United’s dreadful day in South London but the United boss was soon smiling after Matic chose the perfect time to open his account for the Reds.

Goals by Andros Townsend and Patrick Van Aanholt early in both halves put the Reds on the back foot and despite Chris Smalling’s header halving the deficit before Romelu Lukaku levelled matters and Nemanja Matic’s injury time winner deflated the home side after United finally seemed to show some of that old United spirit in the last quarter of the game as the shackles came off.

Jesse Lingard pops up with a late winner for Manchester United after Chelsea lose momentum

MANCHESTER UNITED 2, CHELSEA 1

Goals by Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard ensured that Manchester United overhauled Willian’s first half opener for Chelsea to reclaim second spot from Liverpool after the Reds overcame a moribund start to finish at a canter against their visitors.

Chelsea had an 85th minute equaliser by Alvaro Morata ruled out for a very close offside decision as the visitors piled people forward but the Reds held on.

Victory for Jose Mourinho meant that Chelsea had failed to win after taking the lead first in a Premier League game for the first time in 22 games but respectful handshakes both before and after the game meant that potential flashpoints were kept away from the pitchside.

Manchester United beat Huddersfield Town on day Reds mark 60th anniversary of Munich air disaster

An emotionally charged afternoon in which Manchester United marked the 60th anniversary of the Munich air disaster was followed by a Reds’ victory against Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.

It wasn’t pretty on the eye, but United did enough to find a way past the battling Terriers through second-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez on his home debut.

And with leaders Manchester City surprisingly held at Burnley, United cut City’s lead from 16 to 13 points.

It was a satisfactory performance from United – nothing more than that – as they bounced back from the midweek defeat at Tottenham.

And Reds’ goalkeeper David De Gea, making his 300th appearance for the Reds, could not have had an easier ride as he didn’t have a shot to save.
